Healthy Drinks to Keep You Hydrated

Watch out - if you have a dry mouth, feel tired, thirsty or have a headache, you could be dehydrated. For adequate hydration this summer, aim to drink at least half your body weight in ounces of fluid daily. Drink more if the weather is especially hot or if you do an intense workout. A 120-pound person should drink at least 60 ounces or five 12-ounce glasses of fluid per day. Look at your urine to determine if you’re getting enough fluid. If your pee is clear or slightly yellow, you’re doing a good job. Here are some ideas to increase your fluid intake, while getting additional benefits, too.

  • Drink a meal: Easy to digest before a workout or before you go to bed, a protein shake in the morning or evening can provide the nutrients you need up to two times per day as a meal replacement. I like to drink one in the morning because it’s easy to prepare, and I can drink it on the run. My favorite is Arbonne Chocolate Protein Shake Mix blended with almond milk, berries and spinach.

  • Flavor your water: Drinking water may not be appealing, especially if you don’t feel thirsty. To make it more interesting without sugar, artificial flavors or a lot of extra calories, add crushed berries, squeezed citrus, or thinly sliced cucumber to your water bottle.

  • Get your greens and fiber while you drink: Not getting enough nutrients at every meal? I like to add Arbonne Greens Balance to my water because it’s packed with a rainbow of fruit and vegetables to deliver antioxidants, phytonutrients and prebiotic fiber in a convenient and tasty powder. In just one scoop, you get spirulina, chlorella, kale, artichoke, broccoli, spinach, alfalfa, barley grass, wheat grass, pomegranate, cherry, tomato, pumpkin, carrot, sweet potatoes, papaya, mango, blueberry, blackcurrant and elderberry. I like it because it tastes like a delicious meal in a glass, while satisfying my thirst.

  • Use fluids to optimize your workout: Vigorous physical exertion can cause a loss of electrolytes and generate free radicals. I use Arbonne Phytosport supplements in my water bottle before and after my workouts because they give me energy. Arbonne’s Complete Hydration replenishes electrolytes including magnesium, sodium, calcium and potassium to support muscle and cell function, and contains antioxidants to fight free radicals. It also contains ribose, carbohydrates and a blend of botanicals including cayenne, ginseng and turmeric to help boost energy.
